Exfoliating

Exfoliating – What Is It and Why Is It Important?

You must have heard a lot about the skincare routine and Elysyle skincare from skincare experts that include exfoliation as an essential part. Here’s what you need to know about exfoliation and why it is a step that you should not skip in your daily skincare routine.

What is meant by exfoliation?

Exfoliation involves the removal of dead skin cells, dirt and pollutants on the skin’s outermost surface. It is a process in which granular substances called exfoliate scrub are used to remove the dead cells of the skin in order to make a room for new skin cells. Skin that is not exfoliated regularly can appear dry, flaky, and patchy with clogged pores. To make your skin look fresh, you should exfoliate your skin by using a product that is suitable for your skin type. There are exfoliation products that are specially formulated for dry and itchy skin, combination skin, and oily skin.

What are the benefits of exfoliation?

The key benefit of exfoliating your skin is the improvement of the condition and appearance of your skin. Elysyle Essentiel Skincare has range of products that can provide benefits to every kind of skin. Some of the benefits of exfoliating include:

  • Unclogging pores
  • Reducing blackheads
  • Minimising the appearance of pores
  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Detoxifying the skin by stimulating microcirculation
  • Controlling excess oil secretion by the skin
  • Brightening of dull skin and uneven skin tones
  • Softening of skin texture
  • Enhancing skin clarity
  • Lightening hyperpigmentation

Regular exfoliation also helps to increase the collagen production in your skin. Collagen is a healthy natural nutrient that improves the elasticity of your skin, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and reversing the ageing process. With a constant production of collagen and a healthy blood circulation, your skin is prevented from sagginess and other issues related to the ageing process.

Exfoliating your skin depends wholly on your skin type, skin concerns and preferences. There are two forms of exfoliation – physical and chemical – and for both types, you should start by cleansing and toning your skin.

For physical scrubs, aim to do it at least 1-3 times per week, depending on the products you use and your sensitivity level. For chemical exfoliants, you can use them 1-3 times a week for more sensitive skin. If your skin is more resistive, these chemical exfoliants can be applied on a nightly basis. Always remember to read the skincare labels prior to application because not all exfoliants are created equally.
