Striving to look your best every morning is in every man’s book. How do you like your face when you look in the mirror? Handsome, unblemished and looking like you could rule the world! Absolutely. Your good looks is not just the outfit and accessories that you wear but it is also about having the perfect skin and a fresh look on your face.
A lot of this depends on the daily skincare and shaving routine that you follow. And as we get older, our skin cells don’t replenish themselves as often. Start by understanding what skin type you have – oily, dry, flaky, and sensitive or a combination of each – before buying the skincare products. Here, we will show you what your grooming routine should consist.
Skin Cleanser
Cleanse your face at least twice a day; once in the morning when you apply your full three-step routine and once more in the evening. If you have oily skin or happen to spend a lot of time working outdoors or doing physical activity, you should consider using the cleanser product in the evening. On the other hand, if you have sensitive or dry skin, over-cleansing can cause irritation and damage. It is essential that you understand your skin type and wash it only at night if that describes your skin.
Exfoliate Scrub
Regular exfoliation encourages faster skin cell turnover. This means that your skin can regenerate faster and will look healthier and younger. There are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical:
- Physical exfoliation scrubs the dead skin cells and debris away from your skin which can be irritating as it involves scrubbing with a loofah or a microfiber cloth, or washing with jojoba beads or almond shells. Avoid using this method if your skin is dry or sensitive.
- Chemical exfoliation also removes dead skin cells but in a way that is gentler on the skin. Your skin can be irritated if you over-exfoliate with chemicals so the best way is to start slow at three times weekly before working your way up to once or twice daily.
Skin Toning
Toning is an essential step of daily skincare routine as it helps to keep your pores clean and tightened. However, most toner brands will sting upon contact with your skin, especially on shave day. You can avoid this by holding off a day or two before returning to your toner routine. Alternatively, you can find gentle toner brands that you can use on your shaving days.
Skin Moisturizer
Finally, moisturise your skin with a product that is formulated for your skin type to rejuvenate your skin.
- Normal skin: Go for products that say “for all skin types”.
- Sensitive skin: Go for moisturisers for products with limited ingredients or natural ingredients.
- Oily skin: Go for moisturisers that contain fatty alcohols as these are non-drying but add moisture with a matte finish.
- Dry skin: Go for products with ingredients that protect the epidermal barrier to seal in moisture.
If having matt-finished clear skin results is what you’re after, try out the Pure Emulsion by Elysyle. Use it as a post-shave moisturiser to calm, soothe and hydrate your skin. This product is a lightweight gel-emulsion that gives an intense nourishment, energising and fortification on the skin during the day time. It helps to protect your skin against environment stress, replenishes and retains moisture in your skin, as well as controlling and regulating sebum production. Apply entirely to your face and neck for brighter complexion.
