Eat Less of these Foods to Slow Down Your Ageing Process

If achieving a healthy body as you age is not enough to stop you from eating an unhealthy diet, then attaining smoother skin will. A lot of us have known that sun exposure is a primary cause of skin ageing, but there is another culprit that accelerates the ageing process – advanced glycation end products (AGEs).

AGEs are produced when protein or fat combines with sugar. Basically, the more sugar you consume, the more AGEs you form. Most vulnerable to damage from AGEs are collagen and elastin, the protein fibres that keep skin firm and elastic, 2 and once damaged, wrinkles and skin sagginess will form.

While you don’t have complete control over these ageing factors, applying sunscreen and paying attention to your overall diet can help with how your bodies protect and heal the skin.

Here is a list of foods that can quicken your ageing process, but remember that every individual is different. Consuming one or two of these meals on a daily basis will not result in total skin damage. Deviating from a healthy, balanced diet is what will affect your health, whether or not you have skin problems.

1. French fries

This fried and salty menu is a favourite to many. Foods cooked in hot oil create free radicals, which can cause cellular damage to the skin. Exposure to free radicals speeds up the ageing process through a process known as cross-linking. Cross-linking has an effect on DNA molecules and can reduce skin elasticity.3

Furthermore, taking too much salt can cause dehydration by drawing water from the skin. As a result, your skin may become more prone to wrinkling.

As a healthier alternative, you can opt for baked sweet potato fries or fried sweet potato.

2. White bread

High glycaemic index foods, such as white bread, can produce inflammation in the body, which is directly related to the ageing process.4 The higher the glycaemic index, the greater the effect on blood sugar levels.

When refined carbohydrates combine with protein, AGEs are formed. AGEs have a direct impact on both chronic illnesses and the ageing process. You can opt for whole-grain bread for a healthier meal.

3. Fatty meats

Saturated fats are abundant in fatty meats. The key is to keep it lean. Tenderloin cuts are often leaner. Choose ground beef that is at least 95% lean. Choices include ground turkey breast and chicken breast.5

You should also try to limit hot dogs, bacon, and pepperoni as processed meats are high in sodium and saturated fats, which can dehydrate the skin and weaken collagen.

4. Margarine

Margarine is worse than moderate amounts of real butter since it contains a lot of partially hydrogenated oils. These trans fatty acids make the skin more susceptible to UV radiation, which can damage the collagen and elasticity of the skin.6 Some newer margarines that are low in saturated fat, high in unsaturated fat, and free of trans fats are okay as long as in moderation, as they are still rich in calories.
Olive oil and other vegetable oil-based spreads, which contain healthy mono and polyunsaturated fats, are healthier alternatives to butter or margarine.7

5. Baked goods

Doughnuts, cookies, and sweet pastries taste good, but they are high in sugar, which has been linked to wrinkle formation. Worse, if they’re high in trans fats, which can increase the risk of heart disease. Consuming too much sugar and processed carbs can also cause collagen deterioration in your skin, which then makes your skin vulnerable to wrinkles.8

Think twice before you eat

When it comes to diet, hitting a balance is best for your beauty and health. If you could maintain a healthy diet, not only will your skin be radiant, but your body will thank you for it too. There are other ways to boost collagen and maintain skin health, such as skin treatments as well as supplements.

Radiant and youthful skin starts from within. It is important to start taking care of your skin from the inside out. After all, your cells are the basic building blocks of your skin.

When we age, the production of new cells begins to slow down and we start to lose the war against ageing. El Marino Yang™ has decoded the ability to regenerate cells derived from the stem cell of a pomegranate flower, resulting in the revolutionary formulation called V-CENTA™. This 6-in-1 Solution helps your skin to regenerate new skin cells, protect stem cells, firm your skin by accelerating collagen and elastin synthesis, whiten the skin, moisturise the skin and increase skin’s elasticity.

With El Marino Yang™, the skin becomes firmer, radiant, and returns to its youthful state.
