Skincare Routine for Every Skin Type

Skincare Routine for Every Skin Type

Cleanser. Toner. Serum. Moisturiser. Sunscreen. Repeat. Our skincare routines nowadays are pretty much your run-of-the-mill standard, from the back-to-basics, minimalistic approach to the exhausting 10-step Korean routine. Yet, there is not one routine that is a one-size-fits-all.

Dust, pollution and exposure to UV rays can cause damage to your face and overlooking your skincare routine can only mean you are making way for all kinds of skin problems to occur. Just for you, we have created a simplified skincare guide for your skin type.

First, identify your skin type as this will determine the daily steps you need to take and the right products to use. This will also mean that you are more prepared in caring for your skin.

Dry / Sensitive Skin

If you have dry or sensitive skin, you may be:

  • Prone to inflammatory eruptions
  • Highly reactive to new products
  • Often sensitive, tight and uncomfortable
  • Prone to fine pores that have a tendency towards dryness
  • Easily irritated by shaving

For those with this type of skin, you should:

  • Cleanse your face with a moisturising gel or foaming cleanser and rinse with warm water.
  • Apply toner with a cotton ball to remove the remaining residue and absorb moisturiser better.
  • Apply a hydrating moisturiser. However, do remember to steer clear of fragranced products.
  • Remove dead cells and unclog your pores once a week using a gentle face scrub.

Oily Skin / Acne Prone

If you have oily skin or are acne prone, you may be:

  • Feeling greasy on your face with large, visible pores
  • Prone to skin breakouts with common blackheads
  • Conscious of a shiny feeling, especially on your nose and forehead

For those with this type of skin, you should:

  • Cleanse your face with a moisturising gel or foaming cleanser and rinse with warm water.
  • Apply toner with a cotton ball to remove the remaining residue and absorb moisturiser better.
  • Apply a hydrating moisturiser. However, do remember to steer clear of fragranced products.
  • Remove dead cells and unclog your pores once a week using a gentle face scrub.

Combination / Normal Skin

If you have combination or normal skin, you may:

  • Have the occasional bout of dryness or oiliness but no huge issues
  • Have kind of an average looking skin and are relatively problem free
  • Have the common shaving irritation that may occur once in awhile

For those with this type of skin, you should:

  • Cleanse your face with a gel or foaming cleanser and rinse with warm water.
  • Apply toner with a cotton ball to remove the remaining residue and absorb moisturiser better.
  • Apply a general moisturiser; unless your skin is oily in some areas and dry in others, then you may want to use a hydrating moisturiser for the dry areas and an oil-free one for the oily spots.
  • Remove dead cells and unclog pores twice a week with a gritty face scrub.

Mature Skin / Ageing Skin

If you have combination or normal skin, you may:

  • Have real visible or getting-there wrinkles
  • Have fine lines around your eyes, mouth and forehead
  • Have noticeable under-eye bags

For those with this type of skin, you should:

  • Cleanse your face with a moisturising, creamy cleanser and rinse with warm water.
  • Apply toner with a cotton ball to remove the remaining residue and absorb moisturiser better.
  • Generously apply an extra-powerful moisturiser before applying a targeted eye cream.
